Millis Select Board elects Schultz chair, approves new transfer station fees and master plan grant bid

MILLIS — May 18, 2026 — Millis Select Board reorganizes, names water plant for retired employee, and pursues $150,000 master plan grant. The board unanimously elected Craig Schultz as chair, Ellen Rosenfeld as vice chair, and newly seated member Jim McKay as clerk at its May 18 meeting, then worked through a packed agenda of ceremonial and administrative action. The board posthumously presented the 2026 Lansing Millis Legacy Award for Service to Katharine Collins McGinnis, a 40-plus-year resident who served on the Planning Board for 23 years and roughly a dozen other town committees; her husband Steve McGinnis accepted the award, which includes a permanent plaque at the Senior Center. The board also unanimously named the new PFAS treatment plant and Well 3 off Birch Street the Kenneth Alec McCall Water Filtration Plant, honoring a 31-year town employee whose water-system work DPW Director David Gazinski credited with building the town's current water reliability. On the fee side, the board approved a new FY27 transfer station schedule effective July 1, raising annual resident permits to $100 and senior permits to $45, and bumping bag fees by 10 cents — the first significant adjustment in more than a decade, with mattress and large-appliance fees restructured to stop a per-item loss. The board also authorized the chair to sign a letter of support for a Community One Stop for Growth grant application seeking $150,000 from the state to fund Millis's first new master plan since 2000 and ratified a three-year employment agreement with Finance Director Jody Kersey.
