MILLIS — The Millis Planning Board approved an accessory dwelling unit at 47 Walnut Street and waived site plan review for a Sparhawk Academy barn classroom renovation at its August 4 meeting. Engineer John Glassa of Glassa Engineering told the board he had revised the septic design for applicant Alex Brooks' Next Step Carpentry project, adding a compost sock and keeping the system "exactly four feet above the water table." The board separately continued a public hearing on Woodlands LLC's proposed 44-lot subdivision off Cottage Avenue to September 15, after engineer Dan Merrick of Legacy Engineering said a traffic study and a Select Board decision on a possible soccer field remain outstanding. Chair Richard Nichols recused himself from that vote.
Architect George O'Neill of Gorman Richardson Lewis Architects secured a waiver to convert a barn into a roughly 1,300-square-foot classroom, conditioned on submitting an occupant-load calculation.
